Las Palmas (sgh) - Gran Canaria, the volcano island located around 210 kilometres in front of the North-western coast of Africa, is often referred to as miniature continent because of its climatic and geographic diversity and its sophisticated flora and fauna. Gran Canaria's jagged spectacular mountain ranges and an average annual temperature of 23 degrees Celsius make the island a paradise for mountain bikers and the ideal location to overwinter.

Gran Canaria's mountain bike tourism expert and marathon organiser Petra Wonisch has created an array of attractive activities to celebrate the 5 th edition of the famous Marathon open MTB Gran Canaria., season opener of the Trek Challenge , Austria & the Ritchey Challenge ,Germany- ,big fiesta , many gifts for the participants & lots of possibilitsie to win the next mtb-holidays.

This year the riders can choose between of 3 different distances - so there will be the "light marathon , with 38 km , the classic ,with 65 km and the extreme -with 85 km.-

Many famous pro and hobbybikers from all over Europe have already avised their arrival- and will fight on the extreme marathon for the victory -and will make a very impression competion already on Friday afternoon during the "criterium " in the park of maspalomas.

For 2010 the organziers excpect 500 rikers - besides the 200 kids joining the Bike &roadsafety- School-day - including technical & mechanics-trainign with the pros - the "master class” really motivates the young bikers to struggle more and train harder - and they all agree "roadsafety can not be accidently -it depends on you.

The 2nd Marathon” of Women , the charity activities for the canarian asociacion of breast cancer , will be one more highlight -counting . with female riders, depending on their physical condition , participate in the semi Marathon or ride a few teaser loops in he park. We invite women of all age groups to join us, because for each ridden kilometre a donation will be made in aid of the ‘Association Contra Cancer de Mama', the association against breast cancer.”Even women who don't own a bicycle can participate, because the organisers
will provide test bikes

Catering:	There are refreshment stations every 15-20 km. En route there will be bananas, apples, oranges, dried fruits, bread and rolls with sausages and cheese, pieces of cakes, power bars, water and Coca-Cola. Self supply may only be given at the assistance points marked in the course plan.
Timing:	The race is timed by "Top Times Canarias" with a transponder chip. The participants who do not have a chip yet will get one with their start number. The cost is Euro 25,- (the rental will bei included in the fee and EUR 25,- deposit). The deposit will be refunded when the chip is turned in after the race. No chip - no timing - no evaluation!
Chip returning:	Return the Chips by finish the race - until 18 o´clock
